This garden was designed to a 'Permaculture' methodology, giving the clients vegetable and fruit areas and somewhere for the chickens as well as ornamental flowerbeds. A number of outbuildings had to be incorporated to meet the clients self-sustaining requirements.
The front garden of the property, as well as the borders running around the house were designed with perennials and grasses that historically reflect the natural environment.
This axonometric shows the outbuildings and fruit & veg areas. The clients were keen outdoors people who enjoyed eating 'al fresco' as much as possible.
In addition to an improved parking area to the front of the house and a woodland walk connecting the main house with the annex, the wish of these clients was for an outdodor 'snug' where family and friends could gather of an evening around a sunken fire pit.
A cross-section of the rear terrace shows the construction details for the 'snug' and sunken fire-pit.
A elevation sketch gives the client an idea of the potential for the front of the house. A scaled axonometric shows the improved parking area, which now adds privacy to the rest of the garden.
A simple re-design of an existing border with an enhanced planting scheme can often be all that is needed. Here, the border offers a little more seclusion to the swimming pool area and the bespoke oak archway adds to the experience.
An unusually large front garden lends itself beautifully to a combination of classic topiary 'knot' garden and a functional area for growing fruit and vegetables. Bespoke oak archways lead into the driveway as well as up to the front door.
Even a small unassuming area can become an enchanting place to sit and relax. This shady courtyard incorporates a water feature which offer another element to the outdoor space.
Two schools, two different outdoor learning environments. Incorporating grow-your-own and wildlife habitat appreciation - and, of course, play!
Costs are kept down by engaging the aid of parents and local businesses making these projects a community affair.
Proposed design for a West Country holiday park. An adventure playground for the children is incorporated within a nature walk for the grown-ups. A series of seating areas overlooking the coast is provided for much needed respite whilst the children enjoy the activities.
Similarly, in another area of the site, a redundant field is terraced and enhanced with planting and paths. Sheltered from coastal breezes, an outdoor communal barbeque and picnic area sits snugly within the terracing.
Proposed design for a holiday complex in Dorset. A woodland area is created through which a nature walk leads the visitor to a wetland area comprising three linked ponds. Decking is provided on which guests of the restaurant may enjoy their meals and drinks. Consideration had to be given to the neighbouring conservation areas and views over the Estuary and coastline.
